An Operating System is the fundamental software that manages a computer system. It handles the way your hardware functions, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between applications, along with the prioritization of applications if multiple ones run simultaneously. Any program that's installed on a desktop or a notebook operates by sending requests to the OS for different services by using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be done using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the Operating System is what commands a web hosting server as well as any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also any other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS which is run on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer as many as three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers
- Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the safest and the most reliable OSs available and we offer all three of them instead of just 1 as we realize that you may want to install some software which has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there're various software programs you could install on the web hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you wish to use one and that's why we offer several Control Panels as well. Should you decide that you want some other OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and install the one that you would like. In addition, we offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers
, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on your machine as different apps may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a stable and safe Internet hosting service. Depending on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you've selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software which you would like to run. We can also update the OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
